Is this an annual thing after the winter,or are the operators light on cash. Should we as racers/ fans offer a hand to help repair the place?

Actually if you think about the frequency and severity of the storms of the last 40 days or so, everything everywhere is looking a lil' battered. Give them a week or two, the place will look as good as ever. They don't open for another month, so I would think they are "on schedule".

I'm not a circle track racer, I'm into drag racing, but with Riverhead Raceway being the only remaining facility left on Long Island out of some forty I think it's important to support it.

With the ever changing Long Island and the NEW Islanders coming here trying to dictate their vision of what L.I. should be, we always get the raw end of it.
These people build right up to our facilities and then complain it out of business. It's like we're being pushed into the sea. These people base their opinions on 60 year old track tech when it comes to their narrow minded views.
Their lack of knowledge and arrogance dictates what goes on because our lack of action doesn't counter their push. There are very few sites or organizations like this one looking to keep and also restore safe legal racing here. There are plenty of racers and fans here in every form of the sport, but few seem to want to change the status, but would be ecstatic if we could get it done for them.
That more than the maintenance of the track is the biggest problem we face, and unless it changes it will only get worse until it's all gone.

I don't know what RR looks like prior to opening but it's usually clean and painted when I go there. I don't know if it's operator is struggling. I do go as many times as I can to watch the racing. I personally think the short track racing is way more exciting then the NASCAR long tracks. I also think racers of every style should frequent the track as a strong showing at every race shows a strong need for the facility and a strong base for for investors who might be looking to build.

I agree, like it or not, it is the only facility left operating here.

Does the track have some issues, sure it does, could it use help, sure does...

Could things be changed, the town of riverhead 1st should take away the restrictions on the place to operate 28 days a year. The racers and fans themselves could handle that with enough pressure on the town board, it's unconstitutional to tell any business of any kind how and when to operate, you have a noise issue, then it can be met and followed.
Then i believe the track could be a gem and upgrade many things, such as the pit area, some of the amenities (buildings/stands/signs/bathrooms)

Knowing and understanding more of how tracks operate and costs involved with insurance and other maintenance issues by having friends that own facilities and honestly share some information. Keep in mind it is not a easy task to pay people to work there, and keep things painted and just working, along with paying the taxes of entertainment, sales & local/state, withholding tax and the property tax when you have 28 days to make the money.

The main focus for L.I.M.A. is to bring back the missing components of motorsports on long island, it's other focus is to promote and run a safe driving program, then to always keep a watch on motorsports to keep this from ever happening again.. Unfortunately many seem to still not understand it is support that will make any wish a reality.

Oh well the new schedule makes it official... no more spec drags.. instead they're replacing it with skid plate racing... (a form of retarded racing that started on dirt tracks with a skid plate in place of the back wheels, for the true side show to the circus)

I will have more free time...we'll be shooting for that 9.99 record this year then..

Actually "skidplate racing" was started in 1980 in Pathmarks parking lot on front street in East Meadow. I invented it. I just bought a Pulsar NX, I backed onto 2 cafeteria trays and locked the Parking brake, and started making hot laps around the lighting poles.
Next night, there were 4 of us, as well as the local police.
Fiberglass trays are quieter than aluminun bakers trays.

I'm told Riverhead will use boat trailer fenders for their skid plates.

I will have a report on my site, www.myracenews.com when they run their first event. Also been told if they damage the pavement, they will be discontinued.....

Whoaaa!!! Are you saying that...

1. They need a better draw then grudge racing and brand loyalty for the fans and kids then SD's, that they and others failed at making it big....
2. The idea was skid plate racing that isn't run as quickly or cleanly

#3. No one with half a brain made a test between 2 pos on the track already! ! !

Wow, I don't even want to go on! ! !
All I'm saying...
